I am an Accidental prostate cancer survivor, radical prostatectomy, class of 2003. This blog chronicles my prostate cancer journey into the post-five year survival period and my personal thoughts about how men and the medical community are responding to the prostate cancer challenge. Please join me in this journey. I would very much appreciate your comments on my reflections.
Please feel free to make a comment. We are gathering information on a not-for-attribution basis about the stage of men's prostate cancer at diagnosis. If you feel comfortable in telling your story, we would like to know how you were diagnosed at the stage of your cancer at initial diagnosis.
I had a radical prostatectomy on 1997 and am a firm 'believer" in PSA screening. I am trying to grasp this controversy over PSA testing and don't understand the statistics. What is the basis for the claim that so many men are being overtreated and what is the cause. Is there a way to expand PSA testing, whiich I see as a good thing, while reducing the amt of overtreatment. Is the overtreatment a result of fear? poor medical advice? or an unavoidable statistical aspect of current knowledge and predictive ability.
